Murrumbeena Secondary College
Memorial Page

Welcome to the Murrumbeena Secondary College Memorial Page.  For those of you who live in Victoria, Australia you will know the suburb Murrumbeena.  This is where are great school was born.

Murrumbeena Secondary College was a high school which had 350 students. But was unfortunately shut down at the end of 1996 by the Kennett government.  The school was forced to merge with Caulfield and Prahran secondary colleges as if they didn't they would receive almost no more funding and they would have had to shut-down. Bruce Fry, Caulfield Principal spread rumors about Murrumbeena which put the strain on Murrumbeena to merge.

The government promised the three merging schools $3 million dollars.  The new school Glen Eira College has been formed on the old Caulfield Secondary College site.  The school has now been operating since the start of 1997.

The Caulfield site is extremely overcrowded.  With only a small amount of space for the basketball court and the building the small oval and English Language Centre is located across Booran road.  The three storey under maintained building was chosen because they could not sell it as the racecourse next door owned the land.  The government's excuse for this was that the Caulfield site was in the middle of the other schools.

Murrumbeena would have been best suited to the merge as it was a 15 acre site.  The grounds could have held 1000+ students with no trouble.  The Administration and staffing section of Murrumbeena had recently been done-up.  Even the Prahran site would have been better suited to the merge.

The new college principal Mrs Adele McMullen who was selected by the school council has already got the total of the refurbishment fund up to $3.5m she is a great asset to the school.  With stage one almost complete, the school is looking alot better than the old crummy Caulfield buildings.

A great fan of Murrumbeena
